conform chair by william lee

Januar 15th, 2012 by Chloe [259]

Industrial designer William Lee’s Conform chairs are a play on an ironically nonconformist design that simultaneously conforms – to the contours of the body. Says Lee, “A geometry of distorted cubes seem to be cut from a single rectangular frame. A slight variation is created from the inversion of top and bottom.” A woven elastic surface stretched over the frame resembles a canvas for painting. “The elastic material allows an opportunity for various neon green and pink frames.”

005 LIGHTING COLLECTION BY NAAMA HOFMAN

Januar 15th, 2012 by Chloe [259]

A lighting collection by Naama Hofman reduced to a simple expression, a fluorescent bulb and a simple, near transparent holder. But it’s not.
It’s not a fluorescent bulb, it’s an acrylic tube containing 180 energy saving LEDs. The combination saves energy and throws off a lot of light.
The collection consists of four light objects.
In each light the acrylic tube/ “bulb” crosses and divides the glass in different manner, says Hofman, “thus creating a different character with each composition, using the same materials.”

martin jakobsen revolution wine glass

Dezember 18th, 2011 by Chloe [259]

It’s like…wine pops? The Martin Jakobsen rEvolution Wine Glass takes minimalism and reinvention of the everyday…sideways, replacing the familiar wine glass stem with a handle. Definitely eye-catching. Probably takes a minute to get used to, but all in the service of better beveraging! Up-and-comer Jakobsen Design offerings-to-date include simplified miniatures of four Czech Republic architectural landmarks, and a laser-cut plywood alternative Christmas tree.

sego & saner wynwood/miami

Dezember 14th, 2011 by Chloe [259]

In this Episode of Here Comes the Neighborhood, Mexican artists Saner and Sego collaborate on a mural for the Wynwood Walls. They create a colorful dreamscape together, building on themes that each of the artists have explored for years. Saner’s interpretation of the work, and his poetic eloquence helps elevate the wall into an ethereal realm, while Sego, traveling to the United States for the first time, brings an astute attention to detail, and a stunning technique grounded in the complexities of the natural world. These Artists exemplify the power of art, both public and private, to function as a change agent, using this mural as a tool to reframe the worlds view of Mexico; from a dangerous narco state, to one of the most beautiful, mystical and transformative cultures in the world.

lego kitchen

August 25th, 2011 by Chloe [259]

It seems that quite a few things will benefit from a Scandinavian touch. Munchausen, a duo formed by Parisian designers Simon Pillard and Philippe Rosetti, took a bold approach with their own kitchen by venturing to IKEA for the basic kitchen island and then spending the next week covering it with more than 20,000 pieces by another Scandinavian brand, Lego.
The result is a one-of-a-kind creation that serves as an artistic centerpiece for the space, in addition to functioning as a kitchen counter. Pillard, who works with fashion house JC de Castelbajac, and Rosetti who works with Hugo Boss France Identity, formed Munchhausen in 2004.
The two have recently contributed a collection of T-shirts, cushions, wallpaper and accessories for the new French label Commune de Paris, 1871. Munchhausen was one of three initial contributors for Commune de Paris, 187. The other two were Julien Langendorff and David Herman Dune.

1939 pontiac plexiglass ‘ghost car’

August 6th, 2011 by Chloe [259]

For the 1939 New York World’s Fair, General Motors’ Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. The ‘invisible’ Pontiac was credited as the first transparent car in America, as the whole car’s Plexiglass body was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.

The ‘ghost car’, resembling preserved bodies showing the muscles and skeleton, was sold at RM Auctions’ St. John’s auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000 USD. It proved good appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 USD to build when new.
